Soviet Illustrations Part 2

Designed for the UCSB Russian club. It features a stylized likeness of one of the Russian language professors, in Stalin-like garb. The whole thing was done using the free image editor GIMP.
Another design for the UCSB Russian club in 2006. It was based on this classic poster from the civil war era. It was done by hand using a two-sided marker. A part of the picture has been cropped out in the scan, and the full text was not yet complete in this digital version. The full text read, "You, have (you) joined yet".

Like the images from the previous set, this one was made in the vector drawing program Inkscape. This is from a detail a Soviet poster. To get the right proportions I removed Engels from selection.

Soviet Ilustrations Part I

This is a set of Soviet themed designs, I made using the original copies cleaned up and modified in Inkscape. The first two were made using a tiny design found in the background of a Soviet postage stamp.

Alien Invasion Bonus

This was the very first Alien Invasion drawing I did, more then 5 years ago now. It's roughly sketched in ball point pen. The "Y" logos are prominent. One of the fighters is using a tripod mounted PKM machine gun.

Vatican Seeks Signs of Alien Life -- AP

Here is another Catholicism themed story. Ruling out the existence of aliens would be putting limits on God's creativity they say. Are there alien Adams and Eves?

" 'The questions of life's origins and of whether life exists elsewhere in the universe are very suitable and deserve serious consideration,' said the Rev. Jose Gabriel Funes, an astronomer and director of the Vatican Observatory.

Last year Funes said believing in aliens does not contradict faith in God because aliens would be God's creatures and ruling them out as a possibility would be akin to putting limits on God's creative freedom. "

" 'Just as there is a multitude of creatures on Earth, there could be other beings, even intelligent ones, created by God. This does not contradict our faith, because we cannot put limits on God's creative freedom.'

Funes maintained that if intelligent beings were discovered, they would also be considered 'part of creation.'

The Roman Catholic Church's relationship with science has come a long way since Galileo was tried as a heretic in 1633 and forced to recant his finding that the Earth revolves around the sun. Church teaching at the time placed Earth at the center of the universe."
